What a week, tonight i look like the incredible hulk because as i am writing to you my hands and arms are covered in green dye, from my piece dying experiments of today.
I am actually really getting into dying now and think it could be an option to explore in terms of looking for work. For anyone dyeing if you have access to procion dyes they work far better than dylon dyes and allow you to produce any colour you want.
Check out my new cup and saucer plus the best biscuits in the world party rings!!
Haha finished all my hand weaving yesterday 🙂 YEY!! I have six hand weave finals, as the majority will be Jacquard. I have also been doing a little bit of digital printing on side which you might be able to make out in the top corner of the image i am going to upload.
Working from home today and after two weeks finally woke up later than 6.30 a.m phew!! Tough early mornings i can tell you.
If any one knows whats going on with the ever-changing weather let me know haha
My currant work space and sampling
Hmm after the photo shoot had a filled week. Got the images back and have been mocking up some business cards and post cards as promotional material. Pleased with some of the images but the majority seem to not be lit correctly and some photo shop work need to be done to touch them all up.
Tutorials galore last week, but i have had a super clear focus since then as i can honestly say the honey comb and distortion weaves have not been working in my favour. Purchasing good quality yarns in the correct colours considering finishes applied to yarns and the texture which it creates impacts on your work alot. Spent more money on yarns hahaha i swear to you Texere yarns in Bradford are solely funded by me and my friend who is also weaving!!
Busy weekend to compliment the week, but it was an overall positive one, i organised all my work, brought almost everything i need to complete my collection bonus!!
Uni today was exciting know what my final samples are to be with regard to hand weave, a mixture of honey comes and distortion weaves.
Tomorrows plan weave the final 3 samples and get off my loom!! I know that sounds bad to say but it is stressing me out that much, i am actually dreaming about hand weaving!! HAHA
I will upload a photograph of my current work area so you can see how the collection is coming together 🙂
Hey so i had my photo shoot yesterday and it was the most hectic thing i have experienced in terms of organising and controlling my nerves!
You know when you watch ugly betty and shoots look fun and exciting, THEY ARE NOT LIKE THAT!! Hahaha no seriously! One of my finals looked washed out on the sofa i had chosen to display it on and my samples to be photographed were everywhere on the floor, under people’s feet im not surprised if i have misplaced some. We all had a half hour space in their and it is not until you do something like that you realise how small a half hour of time is!!
My top tips for a photo shoot although i am no experrt….-:
* Be on time
* Have all your work ironed and all edges finished
* Ensure you have all the props you need / may need
* A tool box with things you could need, , tape, pins, make up, hairspray, etc
* Wear layers as it is aways hot in there
* Be assertive towards who ever is directing the shoot, they are your photographs
* Ask the photographer what they think looks good
* If you are using children as props in the images ensure you have filled out the correct forms to allow them to be in the shoot
* Take an extra pair of hands with you so they can do the running if something is missing
* Be aware of whats going on and the time do the shoots you want first and close-ups of details after
* close ups are just as important as photographing a whole piece as it’s the detail that attracts people.
Hi hi world!! And all of you at wordpress
Apologies for my MIA to blogging i am back, life gets crazy busy this time of year in the study world.
Dissertation complete and handed in, another modual in for next week and i have my photoshoot for my business cards and promo material tomorrow. Exciting stuff.
I aim to write every other day now and i will be uploading some images to the gallery of some of my pervious collections now i have received my work back.
I found Hermes spring / summer collection for 2011 a fresh inspiration in terms of bold block colours and the over use of white. I would describe this collection as classy chic meets sultry sexy tight lady; their corsets appear to be made of plastic and are very tight, whitest day wear is loose but pulled in at the waist. whilest looking at their collection i found a French illustrator currently working for Hermes which i liked.
French illustrator Aurore de La Morinerie is working for many prestigious fashion houses like Hermès and Issey Miyake, using mostly watercolor, ink and wash painting, her style is simple yet sophisticated, I love her drawings and non tradditional sense of sketching.
Oh and i have been eating alot of Sunday Dinners recently and super lovely cakes!! Hmmmmmmmm
